Early Years

Overview

The Early Years curriculum (Pre School & Reception) in AMS consists of three Prime areas and four Specific areas. The three Prime areas are instrumental, overlapping and essential for best support of development in all other areas for children, they are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

The Specific areas are:

  • Literacy (English and Arabic Languages)
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The curriculum is taught using themes divided around the year suitable to the Palestinian environment and child capacity e.g.  All about me unit, My Family, fall activities such as Olive harvesting, Trades and Occupations, Around the World, Animals, Space, Dinosaurs, Under the Sea, Plants, etc. which are included into each class and subject to ensure better learning experiences through fun, games and play.

In EY at AMS the educational structure is designed for children of 4-5\ 3-6 years development capacity with room to grow and have fun. The children start and end the day with circle time to encourage connectivity and communication, then rotate and engage in different classes and spaces outdoor and indoor such as homeroom, imagination playroom, outdoor play area, etc. throughout the day to allow development of different areas of child needs, by employing experience and experimentation that is incorporated into learning of English, Arabic, Science, Maths and Creative Arts.  The class setting is inviting, filled with color and has room to move between rugs, mats and chairs so children have the ability to be comfortable and transition with ease during school days.

At this stage the teaching and learning are play and project-based where children can have a holistic approach to development, working on literacy while dancing or singing and counting, participating and creating through hands on activities of engaging sensory and cognitive development in one activity.  Individuality, independence, communication and creativity are core values and skills that are encouraged in children on daily bases by supporting staff and teachers, using P.E, Music, Crafts and Art which are incorporated in every class to best provide a rich engaging environment.

AMS Preschool, is a (pre-prep) year to Reception and Stage 1 Curriculum of Cambridge. This year curriculum is foundational and supportive of children needs of 3-4 years and is derived in simpler concepts from Stage 1 of Cambridge. Arabic is the main language used with additional support in English for better literacy learning of their home language.

In Reception Cambridge Curriculum Stage 1 is taught as well as the Palestinian Curriculum. The main language focus is English with support from Arabic for better Literacy and cognitive development (allowing for potential bilingual children).

Speaking, sharing, listening and expression are all skills that are highly encouraged at EY in AMS, at this stage of development children need to develop their individuality, with available classes, resources and spaces children get the chance to better express and develop who they can be in the future.
